MARTIUS grows and opens office in Hamburg

German corporate boutique MARTIUS, focusing on board room advice, transactions and dispute resolution, has opened a new office in Hamburg as of 1 January 2024. Prof. Dr. Daniel Graewe (45) joins MARTIUS as a partner and will head the new office.

At the same time, Thies Jacob (37) has been appointed partner in the firm’s Munich office.

Prof. Dr. Daniel Graewe previously worked, inter alia, at White & Case and CMS, and, like MARTIUS, has been successfully advising clients in the areas of corporate law, M&A and dispute resolution for many years. Recently, he has also developed into one of the leading advisors for ESG/corporate sustainability. Thus, he expands the firm’s client portfolio in terms of content and geographic reach.

Thies Jacob, specializing in corporate transactions and board room advice, has been appointed partner in the Munich office of MARTIUS. Thies already worked with the founding partners of MARTIUS at Poellath and has been with MARTIUS since its foundation in 2019. As of recent, he has often teamed up with Dr. Philipp Kopp, e.g. for advising Grünwald-based pharmaceutical group Dermapharm. In 2022 and 2023, Thies Jacob expanded his professional expertise as an M&A advisor in the areas of expansion, restructuring and corporate finance as well as software solutions for corporate transactions.

Dr. Wolfgang Grobecker commented: “With its partner additions, MARTIUS is broadening and deepening its advisory capacities at the highest level. The new Hamburg office, headed by Daniel Graewe, ensures that we are now also offering leading legal advice in the north. We are delighted about the expansion and are convinced that the additions to the partnership will complement and further strengthen us both, professionally and personally.”

“Thanks to the significantly increased clout in Hamburg, we will be able to offer our clients an even broader range of advisory services and increased efficiency. I am delighted to be joining a like-minded team at MARTIUS,” adds Graewe.

MARTIUS will thus have six partners and five salaried attorneys, with  the new Hamburg office going to be strengthened by a long-standing associate from a Magic Circle firm. Further additions at associate level are planned.

MARTIUS was founded in 2019 by partners Dr. Carsten Albert (41), Dr. Wolfgang Grobecker (53), Dr. Philipp Kopp (36) and Philipp Opitz (41).  The founding partners know each other from their previous time at Poellath, prior to this, Grobecker was a partner at Hengeler Mueller.

In the four years of its existence to date, MARTIUS has built up an excellent reputation in the national and international market. The firm’s clients stem from financial, industrial, private equity and family office sectors.
